Knit from tried and true U.S. spun worsted wool, the Dehen wool knit watch cap. These caps are knit using an alternative stitch to Dehen's sweaters to give them a softer, more forgiving hand.
The term "watch cap" was coined by sailors, who often wore these caps to keep warm while on their watch. The late William Dehen's service in the U.S. Navy made this a no-brainer for the Dehen team.

Living in central Oregon, the outdoors call for warm clothing in the winter months. I'm a huge fan of watch caps as my head and ears have to be covered when I'm out in cold weather. We get lots of snow and wind in the winter months and temps often well below freezing in winter. I spotted this burnt orange Dehen cap at Porterhouse and have been wearing it regularly for two weeks. This wool is soft and comfortable against my skin. Not feeling any itch. Snug without feeling tight. Definitely thick enough to protect against cold wind. I can roll the edges down to cover my ears and upper neck well, or double roll for a higher fit for casual wear. The color is rich and definitely a nice color for fall. Not too bright and looks great with denim or a black jacket. I like it so much that a black Dehen watch cap will soon be on my head as well. Love it that it is made in Oregon and the folks at Porterhouse are just awesome. Chapeau!
"Beanies" or "Watch caps" are a dime a dozen in a variety of clothing stores. Having crossed the gender gap many moons ago, and finding their way into many a cozy outfit.
It's often hard to stand out as a producer of watch caps, due to the impressive availability of them, as well as the constant price war of how cheap once can be made, and they can be made very very cheaply.
It's because of this constant war that quality watch caps are nearly extinct, and nearly impossible to come across. Doubly so about hearing about them, as they are seen to be so trite as to be above writing about.
The Dehen 1920 Watch cap is of superior quality to nearly any that you will find in the United States produced here or otherwise. It's a very strong knit, a perhaps a little rougher than most, but undoubtedly durable and hard wearing. I found myself wearing mine throughout the day, even inside due to the comfort once you had grown accustomed to it.
Like any smart manufacturer, the caps also match knitwear made by them, so that it can easily be paired with other Dehen Products. I myself having paired this cap with a Loden sweater made by them. Perfect color matching, and only the tiniest bit of difference in the knit. (This is knit smaller, and with an even higher gauge for softness)
This is a treat to wear and own, and may be the last beanie cap you purchase, it really is that good.
