Alexander Girard "Village" 1945
Alexander Girard "Village" 1945
Description
Description
One of two textile prints in Gitman's latest collaboration with the estate of renowned architect and designer Alexander Girard, Village (1945) exemplifies Girard’s prophetic design style. Despite being designed nearly 80 years ago, Village and its bold, graphic elements looks incredibly contemporary. This print was originally developed by Girard during his tenure as the Head of Fabric and Textile Division at Herman Miller as upholstery fabric, and was offered in a variety of colorways.
To continue Girard’s emphasis of quality craftsmanship, Gitman had Village meticulously reengineered by one of their Italian partner mills on a summer-weight 100% cotton poplin. Each color was matched to their original Pantones and extra care was taken to ensure pigments hold fast and resist bleeding.
About Gitman Vintage
About Gitman Vintage
While Gitman Bros. wasn't on the books until 1978, the Gitmans had been sewing shirts and PJs on contract since 1932.
Gitman Vintage spun off in 2008, revisiting old Gitman linebooks and archives to make old new again. The results are inherently classic in style.
