Brown Winter Seersucker
Brown Winter Seersucker
Description
Description
Seersucker for winter? Sure, why not!? Gitman decided to convert one of their favorite summer fabrics into a warmer, softer, and denser fabric for the colder months. While the basic weave structure was changed dramatically to add heft and warmth, seersucker’s key characteristic – the pucker – remains. The secret sauce is a loosely woven herringbone twill structure that uses yarn tension to push and pull against the weave, creating varied height throughout.
This fabric was developed just for Gitman at their partner mill in Japan after much trial and error. In creating a winterized seersucker, they had to completely change the weave structure to get the warmth and texture they were after. Gitman ditched seersucker’s typical basket weave and swapped for twill because of its increased yarn friction. Friction is not only what makes twill one of the strongest weaves out there, but it’s also what allows them to play with tension and create this fabric’s distinct texture.
